General Dynamics’ involvement in Israeli war crimes is not new. AFSC’s Investigate project has a wealth of information on the company’s history of war profiteering. The company’s 2,000-pound bombs were also implicated in attacks on Palestine in 2014 and 2021, but the current assault has taken General Dynamics’ support for settler-colonial violence to a new level.

The MK84 2,000-pound bomb, the metal bodies of which are exclusively manufactured by General Dynamics, were shown in a New York Times article to have been used hundreds of times in the first six weeks of Israel’s current genocidal attack on Gaza, including in areas that Israel had told Palestinians were “safe zones.” CNN reported that “weapons and warfare experts blame the extensive use of heavy munitions such as the 2,000-pound bomb for the soaring death toll.” These bombs were mentioned by South African attorneys in their genocide case before the International Court of Justice, stating that their use has “decimated the north, including refugee camps.”

In December 2023, Amnesty International confirmed that an October 10 Israeli airstrike on the al-Najjar family home in Gaza with a 2,000 pound bomb – the body of which would have been manufactured by General Dynamics – fitted with a JDAM device made in the US by Boeing – killed 24 people including Susanne Subhi Asalam Najjar (40) and her daughters Safa (17 months) and Farah (23), and sons Yazan (14) and Nadim (20).
